Britain on Weather Alert: Storms, Cold Blast & First Signs of Snow

Friday, 24th October 2025, Britain’s wild weather just isn’t letting up! After a stormy week, forecasters warn that the unsettled conditions are set to continue, ringing more heavy rain, strong winds, and even a sharp drop in temperatures. Storm Benjamin, which hammered parts of England and Wales earlier this week, is now pulling away, but its impact is far from over. The Met Office says lingering bands of rain will sweep across the country today, with highs around 12 degrees in the south and 6 to 8 degrees across northern areas. It’s a chilly reminder that autumn’s bite has arrived early. Expect showers through the morning, heavier bursts in the afternoon, and blustery winds along the west and east coasts. In Scotland, those showers could even turn wintry over the mountains, with sleet and the first hints of snow rolling into the Highlands by Saturday.
And the weekend? More to come. A fresh weather front will push in from the Atlantic, bringing torrential rain and 50 to 60 mph gusts on Sunday, especially in Wales, Northern Ireland, and north west England. With river levels already high, localised flooding can’t be ruled out. Meteorologists warn the jet stream’s rapid shifts are driving this turbulence — a clear sign of increasingly erratic climate patterns across the UK. The good news? Southern England and the Midlands may see brief sunny spells by late Sunday before another band of rain moves in next week.
So, keep those coats zipped, umbrellas handy, and stay weather-wise — this October’s mood swings aren’t over yet!
