On Saturday, 13 September 2025, more than one hundred thousand people marched in central London in what’s being described as the largest anti-immigration protest in recent UK history. The rally, led by far-right activist Tommy Robinson and titled “Unite the Kingdom”, saw participants gather near Whitehall, waving national flags and chanting against recent government migration policies.
Police deployed over 1,600 officers to manage the crowds and to keep anti-immigration protesters separated from counter-demonstrators, who numbered around five thousand. Despite efforts to maintain order, there were numerous clashes throughout the event. At least 26 police officers were injured, with several sustaining serious injuries after being struck by bottles, flares, and other projectiles. Authorities made more than 25 arrests as they tried to restore calm.
The demonstration featured speeches from several figures, including tech billionaire Elon Musk, who appeared via video link calling for much stricter migration controls. Among the counter-protest speakers were politicians John McDonnell and Diane Abbott, who condemned the rise in hate speech and conspiracy theories at the rally.
The high turnout and violence have deepened concerns among community leaders and ethnic minorities, with many viewing the event as evidence of growing polarization and the urgent need for dialogue on migration policy. Police and city authorities said on Sunday, 14 September 2025, that they will continue to monitor the situation as tense debates over immigration remain front and center in British public life.
