World leaders gathered in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, on 13 October 2025 for a landmark peace summit focused on consolidating a new Gaza ceasefire. Hosted by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, the summit welcomed representatives from over thirty countries, including President Donald Trump and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, to witness the formal signing of the deal between Israel and Hamas.
The agreement followed more than two years of violent conflict that has devastated Gaza since October 2023. At the summit, leaders committed to the immediate implementation of ceasefire terms, the phased Israeli withdrawal, urgent humanitarian assistance, and a roadmap for Gaza’s long-term governance. Notably, the summit secured agreement on the exchange of hostages and prisoners, with backing for international monitoring to ensure compliance.
US President Donald Trump described the summit as “a new and beautiful day for the Middle East,” highlighting the roles of Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey in brokering the accord. World and regional leaders—including from France, Germany, the UK, and the Arab League—echoed these sentiments, calling it a rare moment of hope for the region.
A standout moment came when Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif addressed the summit. He called the ceasefire a historic achievement, stating, “Peace has been achieved after months of tireless work—this ceasefire may have saved millions of lives.” Sharif praised President Trump’s leadership, describing him as a “man of peace” and nominating him again for the Nobel Peace Prize for his pivotal efforts in both South Asia and the Middle East. Sharif also drew attention to the need for unified humanitarian efforts and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to lasting peace and reconstruction in Gaza.
The summit’s final communique supported a two-state solution, with calls for donor support and international oversight to rebuild Gaza’s infrastructure and institutions. The event was widely hailed as the most significant step toward peace and stability in the region in over a decade.
